Timmy Cake

I've been super lame about posting again but this one is guaranteed to be a good one...

My sweet baby Sky turns 1 tomorrow so we're having a combination birthday party with her cousins Ella and Zidane (3rd birthdays tomorrow and next Saturday respectively).  It's this afternoon.  I decided I wanted Sky to have an awesome Timmy Time cake since that's her favorite show and he's her favorite character.  I had planned on having my friend Sara make the cake for us, but she's got relatives in town this weekend so she backed out on us a few days ago.  So I planned out the cake myself and JUST finished it a few minutes ago.  Sky is napping, but once she gets up, we'll load everything up and head to my folks' place for the party.  I think she's gonna love the cake and have a super awesome time.

The Prodigal Blogger Returns

The other night I was thinking: I wonder why the hell I ever stopped blogging.....then I snapped back to reality where I'm a mom now!  The last time I posted was waaaaay back when I first found out I was preggers with my sweet baby love Skylar Helen.  Um, she's 10 months old now...it's time to get back to it.  Obviously my life has changed dramastically (to quote a new fav TV show, see below) and it's gonna take more than just one post to update.  However, I've been reading back over some of my previous posts from 2009-2011 and just happened upon this gem from November 19, 2010.  I figured I'd just re-answer the questions as a mini recap of my last 20 months...

Here goes:
1. What time did you get up this morning?
- 7 am (work at 9...and I actually had to wake Skylar up right before I took her to daycare; strange since she's usually up before me)
2. How do you like your steak?
- medium to medium rare
3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema?
- Ted, when it first came out I saw it with DJ...it was one of our first times together away from baby Sky and she was almost 3 months at the time
4. What is your favorite TV show?
- it changes frequently but right now it's Raising Hope
5. If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?
-I said Florence or Amsterdam last time I did this, which is still true but I've also got a yearning to live closer to my bestie Holly and she's back in the City of Angels with Kelly (her hubby!!! more on that later...)
6. What did you have for breakfast?
- coffee (naughty that I've fallen off the breakfast train...I gotta get back into that)
7. What is your favorite cuisine?
-still true: the all-inclusive and vague, Asian...especially sushi, Mongolian beef, crab rangoon, etc
8. What foods do you dislike?
-broccoli.  oh yea and those wafer cookies that come in vanilla, strawberry and chocolate: BARF
9. Favorite Place to Eat?
-I said Zoni Kitchen last time, which would still be true except that they closed down last summer :(  So now I would say definitely Buffalo Wild Wings as far as frequency but I LOVE LOVE LOVE me some Granite City or Braccos
10. Favorite dressing?
-balsamic vinaigrette, still
11.What kind of vehicle do you drive?
-a blue 1995 Chevy Corsica...I call it Dimples the Chevy Storm due to the hail damaged hood.  She's not pretty but she still gets me where I need to go
12. What are your favorite clothes?
-my maternity tank tops...the ruche side seams and extra length make these "wife-beaters" hella comfy
13. Where would you visit if you had the chance?
-as aforementioned, my Holly is in Cali, so to Cali I would go
14. Cup 1/2 empty or 1/2 full?
-full most of the time
15. Where would you want to retire?
-the beach
16. Favorite time of day?
-morning 
17. What is your favorite sport to watch?
-I don't like to watch sports.  And you can't make me...  The Super Bowl was last Sunday and I didn't even watch the commercials.

-most of the time

-I'm still an avid fish owner only now I'm down to just 1 of my Chicago fish my standard koi, Nathan, who is waaaay too large for his 55 gallon home at a whopping 15 inches long.  I also have 1 betta right now named Fletcher I got last fall(I got one named Stanley at the same time but he died after just a few days)
24. Any new and exciting news that you'd like to share?
- I will be moving out of my apartment in less than 3 weeks which will mark the official "callin-it-quits" date for DJ and I...more on that subject to come
25. What did you want to be when you were little?
-an astronaut, a veterinarian, and a cake decorator...simultaneously
26. What is your best childhood memory?

-basking in the dining room patches of sun with my dog Baxter as my pillow and a good book in hand 
27. Are you a cat or dog person?
-I'd say dogs, since I'm slightly allergic to cats (though I still like em) 
28. Are you married?
-no, and won't be for the foreseeable future
29. Always wear your seat belt?
-yep

-a few actually...nothing too serious though and all when I was in high school

-Everything about my current living situation EXCEPT my darling Sky

-I'm a big fan of variety these days...I love concocting my own delicious homemade pies anymore, but when I'm out-n-about I love a good buffalo chicken pizza

-irises
34. Favorite ice cream?
-anything with heath bites or chocolate covered peanut butter in it
35. Favorite fast food?
-The BK Lounge...but I love me some Culvers cheese curds
36. How many times did you fail your driver's test?
-I passed on the first try
37. From whom did you get your last email?
-the last time I checked it would have been from google help since my endeavors last night to restart blogging was hindered by the red tape of account fraud protection (I started this blog using an email addy that doesn't exist anymore and couldn't remember my password.  Also I already have a google account with my yahoo addy so I couldn't change the primary addy in the old account...with a lil smarts I got it to work, though I'm stuck with 2 google accounts now and no way to link them)
38. Which store would you choose to max out your credit card?
-either Blick or Utrecht... and I know now I could definitely max out at Michaels
39. Do anything spontaneous lately?
-not especially (which sucks, I should change that!)
40. Like your job?
-definitely...though obviously retail can really suck too.  For the record, I am back with Michaels (since about the end of my 1st trimester).  I worked there and at Jimmy Johns, both part-time, thru the duration of my pregnancy.  After my ridiculously short maternity leave (12 days), I was able to go back to work at Michaels part-time for about a week before being promoted to full-time framer in early May last year.  Our department manager Linda finally made the move to Arizona as she'd been talking about for ages, opening up her position for Angela and Angela's position for me.  It's nice to finally have a full-time job with benefits (though I waited 6 months for them!)
41. What was your favorite vacation?
-still gonna be my road trip in May 2009 from LA to Chi with my Holly
42. How about who's your favorite actor/actress?
-Johnny Depp/Angelica Huston
43. Last person you went out to dinner with?
-no dinners lately but I had breakfast with my mom and baby on Saturday; oh and lunch with my sister, her kiddo and mine last Thursday
44. What are you listening to right now?
-the burbling water of the fishtank
45. What is your favorite color?
-yellow
46. How many tattoos do you have?
-still 5, but I've got idears wiggling around upstairs that will come to fruition with the onset of some extra cash

-an avid one...but I have to limit myself to just a cup or 2 in the morning

Well, after much calculating and a lot of diagnostics I have discovered one crucial bit of knowledge...I am hopelessly, utterly and irrevocably addicted to Boy Meets World.

I've been binge-watching ever since...and who wonders why?     And now, back to the show...

I've been watching the Academy Awards since about a half hour in and I've been very entertained despite having only seen a couple of the movies.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and was pleased to see it won the awards for best costume design and best art direction.  And now after seeing some of the other wins, my goal is to at least see Inception and The Social Network.  I've been holding off on seeing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 since I really want to see the second one right after the first.  I guess eventually I'll get around to seeing all of the wonderful films nominated tonight.  I just do things on my own time line. 

I LOVE SPARTACUS!!!!

If you haven't already been watching Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, you fucking should be!  I just finished watching the season finale a bit ago and it was FANTASTICALLY AMAZING AWESOMENESS TO THE MIZZITY MAXIMUS!!!  I have watched every episode except last week's the night and time it originally aired.  I actually watched last weeks ep this afternoon, unfortunately on the burn tv.  However, it totally amped me up for tonight's finale which absolutely blew my mind (much like many previous episodes have).  I'm totally stoked for the next season.  It is extremely unfortunate that the actor that plays the character of Spartacus, Andy Whitfield, has melanoma and actually, from what I've heard, has been recast.  I hope from the depths of my soul that he recovers and quickly because no one deserves the pain and heartache that cancer brings.

Whatever though, Gannicus and Crixus are super fine and made my night super-fly.  Now I'm watching the new Fatal Attractions which will be followed shortly by bedtime (since coffee is here tomorrow around 8ish).  And tomorrow's my weekly weigh-in...wish me luck!  I lost a whopping 4 lbs last week so I'm not expecting anything huge, but I've added some new moves to my workout and have been extremely consistent so it should pay off!

This couch potato is TVing it up tonight...

I can't believe it.  I totally forgot that tonight was Spartacus: Gods of the Arena night!  I had to work tonight and when I got home it was half over...at least we've got it on the dvr, I can watch it in 5 minutes if I want to.  Maybe I will cuz it's always just Aaron and me watching it when it first comes on (seeing as Terri's in bed by 8:30 even though it's Friday night and she doesn't work Saturdays).  And though we both LOVE the show, it is definitely a little awkward to watch some of the scenes with my brother.  :-P


And now that it's over and Aaron has retreated to bed for the night, I did a quick channel scan and decided to watch Fatal Attractions (for the first time) followed by Confessions: Animal Hoarding (a fav of mine).  I can't explain my fixation with shows like this but I can't seem to get enough of shows about other people's problems.  Other shows I've been watching as of late include (but not limited to):

Honestly, I can't wait until I have regular old full-time job where I'm not home during the day and I can't really watch all the crazy odd shows on Direct TV.  Also, when I get an apartment of my own, I have absolutely NO intention of paying for TV...just wifi, on which I can stream nearly everything I want.  Then maybe I won't be so attracted to these bizarro shows and I won't watch nearly as much TV as I do right now...

Random Bit of the Day

I just finished watching the movie The Hand that Rocks the Cradle.  This would be the first time I've seen it from beginning to end.  HOLY CRAP AWESOMENESS! :D  The part I find the most entertaining is that the little girl in the movie, Emma, is played by the actress Madeline Zima.  She's had cameo roles in tons of different network shows like Law and Order, JAG, Touched by an Angel, King of the Hill, Gilmore Girls, 7th Heaven, Ghost Whisperer and Grey's Anatomy (only a few of which I actually watch or watched, ie the linked shows).  But her bigger roles were on The Nanny (barf) and on Heroes (yay!).

I took Z to lunch with Jon today; we had Chinese Express (naughty me).  Afterward we hung out at his house watching season 4 of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.  Sweet Dee is my favorite character, especially when she's drunk or performing in public.

Wow, I've been slacking in posting for a bit.  Well, my schedule got all whacked out this weekend because Angela was sick.  So I worked Saturday night and more hours Sunday.  Afterward went to the Super Bowl party at Jon and Marcy's house.  Mom and Dad were there, and Chloe, poor sick little girl.  I read her a bedtime story though. :) <3

Unfortunately this evening was more of the same with the master and commander of this nest.  I'm just tired of getting so angry that nothing I ever do is right around here.  It's blatantly clear that my time here at this residence is limited far more than originally anticipated.  I've got to regroup and get out.  Enough said.

I pulled myself out of my earlier funk with the beginning of an episode of Glee but it's loading presently so here I type.  I watched the Rocky Horror Glee Show episode this afternoon which was totally awesome.  I loved that Barry Bostwick guest starred in it.  Today I also got that massage that mom gave me a gift certificate for.  I got a half hour long massage and it was blissful but now that the day has worn on and I foolishly took a nap after Glee this afternoon instead of working out or folding laundry, my back has started to ache in strange new places.  So I think if I can manage to squeeze some yoga tomorrow between chasing Ella and keeping Z from pounding her, I'll feel a little better.  For now I'm skipping laundry for now and curling up in bed with my freshly loaded Never Been Kissed Glee episode.  But first I'm going to find a healthy snack to accompany this pear I have.

I saw snippets of 3 episodes today in my fragmented Z-day littered with work on the mural and working out.  The illustrious three:  Sharks, Polar Bears, Lions.  I love Alec Baldwin in 30 Rock.  But who doesn't, really??

Historically speaking

I've been watching the History Channel's How the Earth Was Made series this morning...FASCINATING STUFF.  I've always had a taste for geological history in the same way the that I like astronomy and architectural history.

In visiting the website I found a link to This Day in History.  The lead story is that today is the anniversary of the founding of the National Geographic Society (1888).  And the Photo of the Day is gorgeous too...

I went to the grocery store this evening in an effort to stem the cabin fever.  I was going to pick up some asparagus to do this recipe I found on that tv show Tyler's Ultimate.  However, the asparagus was almost 5 bucks per pound!  I didn't buy any but I did want to find the recipe so I will be prepared when I do end up getting a bundle...

We also watched that show What Not to Wear.  It made me take a look at what I'm wearing tonight and laugh a little.  Right now I'm wearing a pair a light blue/green fleece drawstring pants (with a burn hole and several paint stains), a pink/white floral sports bra loosely covered by a wife-beater style tank with a black/white hexagonal pattern print, a black hoodie with a black/white horizontal stripe pattern inside the hood, purple/tan argyle socks...and earlier a multi-colored pastel striped scarf and my fur-lined short snow boots.  W. O. W.  I am the epitome of style.

More Gifting...

So I'm starting to notice a trend here...I go through phases of blogging between projects with deadlines.   When I have something that needs to be done by a certain time, I devote as much of my spare time to it as possible.  And while I could have easily posted a quickie before bed (heh), I've been watching a lot of Christmasy things these last few days.
I LOVE Christmas movies and tv shows.  Actually, just a minute ago I was looking for something to watch and a movie called Nothing Like the Holidays is on one of the Encore channels...It seems way more inviting than the show I'm watching on NatGeo, Seconds from Disaster, though it's good as well.  The movie doesn't start for a few minutes still.
Strange thing is that Z is still sleeping.  I thought for sure he'd be up by now, but I don't mind.  I guess he didn't sleep well last night...I personally think that Aaron and Terri should start letting him put himself back to sleep.  He's over 8 months old now; gotta break bad habits like that or he'll forever think it's ok to wake up frequently at night.

So anyways, the projects I've been working on are obviously my Christmas gifts.  I finished the painting of Baby Ella and have moved on to the painting of Blue and Peewee.  I've also made the hats for Z and Ella and plan on today finishing up the appendages and choosing eyes for them.  Saturday night I worked at Empty Bowls at the Wash Pav.  I ended up paying the 10 bucks to take a bowl made by the Action Arts kids.  I decided I wanted to give the bowl to Matt (as in my friend, not my brother-in-law).  So the next day when I was working at Michaels, I got a couple of super soft dark purple skeins of yarn (Loops and Threads, Charisma for like $1.50 each!!!) to make Angela a nice hat and scarf set.  I think I'll be able to get everything finished in time for when we actually celebrate Christmas, which this year is going to be the 26th.  Sunday night we'll have our big breakfast dinner and exchange gifts at Jon and Marcy's house.  So I have until then.  If I can, I also want to knit my dad a hat but that's less likely to be finished on time because knitting takes so much longer than crocheting.  I figure since he just reminded me of it the other day that it'll be alright if I work on it while I'm there.  It'll be strange to have Christmas somewhere other than Mom and Dad's.  Strange but good since Jon and Marcy's place is huge.

That reminds me that last night before I fell asleep I was thinking about my family in linear terms.  I had this idea last Christmastime for a kid's storybook about my family, sort of a Seaman Saga.  Starting with my dad, each page would be about one person.  I still don't know how exactly I want to make the book.  I had thought of canvas pages with fiber use and painting but that's just a start.  I did decide the order in which I'd like to put the pages though.  In numerical and chronological order, my family line is as follows:

The book will probably have birth dates and places for everyone, anniversaries for the married, and some sort of differentiation between generations.  I like this order because then I can continue adding to the book as the family grows.  I guess what made me even remember this scrap of an idea was that when I was over at Mom and Dad's on Saturday morning for coffee I read dad's latest Christmas newsletter the "Seaman Saga 2010".  In it he talked about how the family has grown for 9 members to 12 all in the last year.  It's pretty crazy since our additions have been infrequent in the past...like Terri June 2004, Chloe February 2007, and Matt October 2008.  So this book is going to be a sometime-down-the-line project that I'm going to just stew on for awhile.  In the meantime, I'm going to get back to working on my gifts.  Z will probably wake up soon anyways and I've been blogging for a long time since I keep getting distracted by this movie...it's really good and it's set in the only other place besides home that's close to my heart...Chicago.

Work work work and sick to boot

I woke up very fluish early this morning, after having gone to bed pretty late...It was a Z day so I was home for the day and then worked again this evening.  I've got lots of hours this week and it's been kinda nutso.  I went to Matt and Angela's house last night for a little art night.  Strange thing is that both Angela and I were sick sick sick this morning.  Actually she was all day.  I stopped feeling nauseous long enough to eat earlier.  But I've been feeling queasy since shortly before I left for my shift.  Despite having had very little but water today, I'm still debating whether to try eating something before bed.  Better not; better safe than sorry.
Anyways, my key projects outside of work now are Christmas presents for my family.
I'm still pondering Mom and Dad, though I'm considering buying a ready-made open back frame for one of my paintings that is hanging in their house.  I'm pretty sure the size is 16" x 20" but I'll prolly sneak over there during the day to measure and to check how wide a frame can fit in the space allowed.
For Aaron and Terri, I'm thinking of basically doing a scaled back version of Ella's nursery mural only frog-themed.  I'd probably be able to use the leftover paint from Ella's if it's still good.
For Jessica and Matt, I want to do 2-8" x 10" paintings; one of little Miss Ella herself and one of Blue and Peewee.
I'm still not sure what to do for Jon and Marcy yet, though another open-back frame for the painting I did for their wedding is a potential idea.
For Chloe, I'm doing a small gouache painting of my goldfish silhouettes forming transparencies by overlapping.  I plan on putting it in a little float frame...I know it's not a super exciting gift for an almost 4-year old but knowing her dad and stepmom, she'll have it forever.
For Ella and Z, I'm making them baby hats...a monster or 2 for Ella, a bear and a basic brown hat for Z.
That about covers everyone.

I totally lost a ton of potential work time today on my gifts because of this nasty bug.  L.A.M.E.
I just didn't feel like painting...you know something's wrong with me if I don't want to paint.  Sheesh.
Well, I don't work till 2 tomorrow so I may indulge on some breakfast in bed (ie my guilty pleasure show on soap net) and paint.  I look forward to real breakfast too...my morning today was just all sorts of outta whack without my coffee.  And with that I bid you adieu...
