Last Day of the Year

I sold a couple of hats to Jon from work yesterday.  Both bears...I did actually sew a face onto the pink one; it's not there in the pics because I added the face at work yesterday before my shift and left the hats there for Jon to pick up this morning.

So yesterday afternoon I met up with Mom and we got the new tires for my car.  Jon treated us to lunch at BK and we shopped at Kohl's afterward.  It was raining through the early part of the day but by the time we headed from Kohl's back to Tires Plus Mom's car had iced over.  My car was even worse having only been sitting in the lot for about a half hour.  Despite not having to work for another hour and a half I decided to go there instead of home because of the freezing rain.  I did pick up an new ice scraper and some anti-freeze from Walmart.  And I managed to de-ice all the windows by the time I had to punch in and by that time it had switched from rain to snow as well.

If anybody thought the weather was bad last night...they were dead wrong.  There is a massive blizzard raging outside right now.  It's currently 3 degrees, windy, and snowing with accumulations from 5-8 inches expected.  It is a B-E-A-U-tiful day!

Actually, once Terri gets home from her faux day at work, I'll go out and shovel for my "work-out".  Though I've been starting to ease myself into more healthy eating habits this past week, tomorrow starts my serious diet and lifestyle change.  For too long I've let myself become complacent and lazy.  No more...I'm going to shovel now because Z is sleeping.

Hippos and Finger cuts.

I sold this hippo today...or rather, my mom sold it for me as she brought my baby hats to school this week to see if there was interest amongst her coworkers.

 Score!  Another one of my personal favs sold.

On a not so awesome note, I sliced my left index finger open on a giant piece of glass today...curse that stupid jersey sew!  The cut's right on the pad so typing takes longer.  It's actually kinda nasty...I need to better equip my at-home first-aid kit for cuts of this nature.  I need some rubbing alcohol, neosporin and more bandaids.  I have work in the morning so I can doctor it there.

On another better note, I finished Angela's marvelous soft plum hat and scarf with tassels set this evening.  I also worked for awhile on Ella's monster...though it's coming along nicely now, I'm gilding the lilies so to speak when it comes to the decorative elements so it's taking longer than expected.  It will be so wonderfully awesome when it's finished.  Everyone will want one.

Fun and Fruity Baby Hats

I've made a total of 12 baby hats in the shapes of various fruits.  Here's a few shots:

Bear Baby Hats

So far, I've made 4 bears: 2 girly bears and 2 boyish bears.  One of each has sold.

Duck Baby Hats

My most favorite winter hat to wear is not actually one I made.  I got it from a place on Belmont in Chicago; it's knit and has a brim.  It was the inspiration for my baby duck hats.  While the brim in my hat is most likely cardboard, therefore rendering it virtually unwashable, each duck hat's brim is made from a recycled cool whip lid making it perfect for baby.  These guys are super cute:

Monster Baby Hats

I first got the idea to make monster hats when I asked Jessica what kind of hat I should make for Ella (via text) and she responded by saying Matt wanted me to make her a monster hat.  So the first monster I made with Ella in mind...that same monster ended up being too big for her petite little head and actually sold at the craft fair.  The monsters are one of the most extensive hat designs having protruding eyes, nostrils, spine spikes, and some have teeth.  I've made 5 monsters thus far, this first one is the sold one...

 

 

 

Frog Baby Hats

 I've made these nine frog hats thus far.

This black/googly-eyed frog was the first of its kind and a gift to my model and nephew Zidane.  The green-eyed frog is very similar in construction and is the only frog so far to sell.  Actually Terri bought it at the craft fair on Saturday...she's gonna give it to Ella for Christmas to match her little frog sheet that's like Z's.  That way they'll have matching frog sheets and hats.  :-P
